The purpose of preparation of this puraanic subject index is to unravel the true meanings of mystical vedic mantras. Not all the texts included in this index are considered as puraanic texts. For example, Lakshminaaraayana Samhita is quite an unknown text till recently. However, the aim behind inclusion of such type of texts has been to take help of sacred texts to the largest extent possible in unravelling the mysteries of vedic mantras. There are few puraanic indexes currently available in the market in Hindi and Sanskrit. One of these, by Shri Rana Prasad Sharma( Published by Jnaana Mandala, Varanasi) is based on mainly 5 puraanic texts. Few other indexes on individual puraanic texts have also appeared like Kuurma, Vaamana, Brahma Vaivarta ( Published by Shri Sampurnananda Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Varanasi). The Name index of Mahaabhaarata text had already been prepared and published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur and its modified reprints by other publishers are available in the market. Therefore, only few chosen words from this texts, which were not available in the earlier index, have been included in this index.
